Trio of Stow Artists to exhibit work in Hudson, Ohio
Beginning January 18th and running through the end of March of 2012, Stow artist Tom Williams will be displaying his Oil Paintings at the Watson-Ewell-Curran Community Art Gallery of the Hudson Library and Historical Society located at 96 Library Street, Hudson OH. In addition, two of Tom’s students will join him in the premier showing their oil paintings. A reception allowing you to “meet the artists” and see their work will be held Please join them and enjoy the exhibit.
Tom has been studying Oil Painting since 1983 with notable Northeast Ohio Artists Bernice Fitzgibbons, Gene Bell, Jack Liberman and Dino Massaroni, in addition to studying at the University of Akron and the Cuyahoga Valley Arts Center. He currently paints, sells and teaches out of his Stow, Ohio Home.
Tom has been a Signature Member of the Akron Society of Arts, the Tri-County Society of Fine Arts and the Black Range Artists in Southwest New Mexico. He is an award winning artist having won numerous ribbons and prizes in local and regional shows in Ohio and New Mexico. His work is primarily representational where he uses the rich colors of his palette, light and texture to capture the essence of his subjects. One of Tom's recent paintings was accepted for the Butler Institute of American Artists 74th Mid-year show, his second appearance at this prestigious show in recent years
Joining Tom in this showing for the first time are Stow student artists Emily Schinker and Jazzlyn Hous. Both are currently in the 7th grade. Emily has been studying with Tom since June, 2010 and Jazzlyn since February, 2011. These young artists are learning the techniques of creating fine art and are building a fine collection of completed works, some already in private homes in the Northeast Ohio area. They both enjoy painting wild life, land and seascapes and still life.
I am an oil painter, having studied my craft since 1983 with notable Northeast Ohio artists Dino Massaroni, Bernice Fitsgibbons, Gene Bell and Jack Liberman. Additionally I have benefited from courses offered by The University of Akron’s art department and the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center. My work is best described as representational in the style of the olf masters where light and texture play a major role in capturing the essence of the subject. Many of my completed works hang in private collection in NE Ohio, the southwest and the west coast. My preference for oil rather than other mediums comes from my love of traditional methods and materials, believing that only oil based paints can truly duplicate the bright, vivid colors found in life. |

Emily is a 12 year old 7th grade student from Stow, Ohio who attends Ohio Virtual Academy. Her interest in art started at a very young age. She took a variety of classes with Christine Ries, the Cuyahoga Valley Art Center, and Kent State University before coming under the private tutelage of Tom Williams in June of 2010, just before her eleventh birthday. Emily began painting with acrylics, but soon switched to oils. She fell in love with the slower drying time of oil paint which allows her time to perfect her paintings. Animals are Emily’s favorite subject, but she has completed several landscape and still life works as well. She spends 4-5 hours each week painting in addition to the two hours a week spent on her school art curriculum. |
| When she is not painting she enjoys horseback riding, downhill skiing, swimming, traveling, and reading. She has been an active Girl Scout for 8 years with Troop 90638 in Stow, earning her Bronze Award in 2009 and working this year on her Silver Award. She is a member of Geo Juniors (sponsored by the Summit Lapidary Club) and volunteers regularly at Trinity Lutheran Church (Kent) and Kent Social Services. She aspires to paint for a living and dreams of selling her paintings for thousands of dollars. However, she can’t sell them now because she gets too attached to them! Emily hopes you enjoy viewing her work. | |
Jazzlyn Hous is a 13 year old, 7th grade student from Stow Ohio who attends Kimpton Middle School. Her interest in studying art began in early 2011 when she started to study oil painting with Stow Artist Tom Williams. |
