Booker Prize

The Booker Prize represents the very best of contemporary fiction. One of the world's most famous literary prizes, it continues to be the ultimate accolade for every fiction writer

Edgar Allan Poe Awards

Awarded annually for outstanding mystery writing by the Mystery Writers of America.

 

Hugo Awards

The Science Fiction Achievement AwardTM, also known as the Hugo Award®, is given annually by the World Science Fiction Society® (WSFS®).

National Book Awards

A prestigious award given by the National Book Foundation in four genres, fiction, nonfiction, poetry and young people's literature.

Nobel Prize in Literature

Literature is one of the five prize areas mentioned in Alfred Nobel's will. Nobel stated that prizes be given to those who, during the preceding year, "shall have conferred the greatest benefit on mankind" and that one part be given to the person who "shall have produced in the field of literature the most outstanding work in an ideal direction."

 

Pen/Faulkner Award

An award for young writers, and affiliated with PEN (Poets, Playwrights, Editors, Essayists and Novelists), the international writers' organization.

 

Pulitzer Prize

Only U.S. citizens are eligible to apply for the Prizes in Letters, Drama and Music (with the exception of the History category in Letters where the book must be a history of the United States but the author may be of any nationality).
For the Journalism competition, entrants may be of any nationality but work must have appeared in a U.S. newspaper published at least once a week or on a newspaper's Web site.
The Public Service prize is always awarded to a newspaper, not an individual, although an individual may be named in the citation.

 

RITA Awards

Given by the Romance Writers of America Association for outstanding books in the romance genre.
