Renowned author, “Forks Over Knives” Doctor to speak

World-famous doctor and advocate of a plant-based diet, Dr. Caldwell B. Esselstyn, Jr., will speak at the Hudson Library & Historical Society on Monday, March 12 at 7:00 p.m. Dr. Esselstyn will discuss his book, "Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease: The Revolutionary, Scientifically Proven, Nutrition-Based Cure" and explain how a vegan lifestyle can bring anyone back to living with a healthy heart.

Former President Bill Clinton credits Dr. Esselstyn with reviving his health after following Dr. Esselstyn’s plant-based, no-oil regime. The doctor is featured on the hit documentary "Forks Over Knives" and also a CNN Special Report, "The Last Heart Attack," with CNN medical correspondent Sanjay Gupta, MD.

Of the book, TV’s Dr. Oz says, "A hard nosed scientist shows us his secrets for successfully cleaning the rusting arteries of so many patients - and it doesn't even hurt." (Mehmet Oz, M.D)

Dr. Esselstyn received his B.A. from Yale University and his M.D. from Western Reserve University. He was trained as a surgeon at the Cleveland Clinic and at St. George’s Hospital in London. In 1956, as a member of the victorious United States rowing team, he was awarded a gold medal at the Olympic Games; and in 1968, as an Army surgeon in Vietnam, he was awarded the Bronze Star. He and his wife, Ann Crile Esselstyn, have followed a plant-based diet for more than 26 years. Dr. Esselstyn presently directs the cardiovascular prevention and reversal program at The Cleveland Clinic Wellness Institute.
