Memory Expert Returns to the Hudson Library
The Hudson Library & Historical Society will present "Memory Difficulties: Beyond the Changes with Normal Aging" on Thursday, March 8 at 7 p.m. Dynamic and knowledgeable memory specialist Kathryn Kilpatrick returns with a lively discussion about recognizing memory changes due to normal aging and those that need further assessment.
All of us experience memory glitches from time to time. While there are many causes for memory problems, some are reversible while others can be attributed to normal aging. The key is to understand how these changes can impact a person's daily functioning and safety. It's important to learn about some of the "red flags" and strategies so a person can maximize their strengths and continue to have a quality of life. Increased awareness can mean the difference between being proactive or missing the opportunity to begin, sooner rather than later, some of those important conversations.
Kathryn Kilpatrick is an author, geriatric communication consultant, and a national speaker with a 40 year career as a speech-language pathologist, primarily in the area of home health care. She is President of Communication Connection and Memory Fitness Matters, focusing on enhancing the quality of life for those with speech, language as well as memory and cognitive challenges. In addition to personal experience walking this journey with her mother, her blogs address key issues with a focus on person-directed care.
This program is sponsored by The Gables of Hudson Assisted Living Residence, soon to be built at the site of the former Waters Restaurant on Darrow Road in Hudson. It is free and open to the public.
