Wild About Orchids

Learn About Orchids with Cleveland Botanical Garden Director of Horticulture

Learn all about growing, potting and caring for gorgeous orchids on Wednesday, March 7 at 7:00 p.m. when Cleveland Botanical Garden’s director of horticulture, Cynthia Druckenbrod, visits the Hudson Library & Historical Society.

This event coincides with the Garden’s current exhibit: “Orchid Mania: This Side of Paradise.” The organization’s website describes the event as one that “celebrates those independent spirits of the floral world, orchids, in a setting befitting of Jay Gatsby himself.” There are hundreds of bold, fragrant, blooming orchids on display throughout the Garden and in the naturalistic setting of the  Costa Rica Glasshouse. The exhibit runs February 11 through March 25.

Druckenbrod is responsible for the Botanical Garden’s ten acres of award-winning outdoor gardens and other plant collections, including the 18,000 square-foot Eleanor Armstrong Smith Glasshouse. Her many areas of expertise include orchids, day lilies, home and popular gardening and even insects. She has played a leading role in all of the facility’s popular annual orchid exhibits and other horticultural events and is always looking for new and novel ways to bring together both people and plants.

The horticulturalist earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Case Western Reserve University and later attended Auburn University in Alabama and received a Master of Science in Entomology.
