Research Assistance
Research Inquiries
The historical society is happy to answer research inquiries. All inquiries must be made in person or submitted in writing (either e-mail or letter). For more in-depth personal genealogical research, we recommend contacting the Hudson Genealogical Study Group.
We will make every effort to respond to inquiries as quickly as possible, but depending on the nature of the inquiry, some requests may take longer.
Policies and procedures
Archival collections, local history materials, and many of the books from the archives’ collections do not circulate. Collections are available to the public at the library during library hours. When using archival collections, patrons are required to abide by the following policies:
- All archival materials must remain in the archives reading room.
- Patrons must fill out an identification form and surrender a driver’s license or a state ID in order to view materials.
- Only staff members may retrieve materials from the stacks; patrons may use no more than 1 box or 3 books/items at one time.
- Handle all materials with care:
- Eating and drinking while viewing archival materials is prohibited.
- Use pencils (or computers), rather than pens and markers for note-taking.
- Keep folders in original order in boxes.
- Use white gloves when viewing fragile materials or photographs.
- Before making photocopies, consult with a staff member.
- Please return all materials to a staff member.
